Public records should be easy to explore—and easy to check. Here is what this collection covers, where it comes from, and what remains incomplete.

Historical House and Senate service, states, districts, and party affiliations. Today’s membership is matched by Bioguide ID to the House Clerk and Senate rosters.
Chief and associate justice service from the Court’s historical roster. Current membership is checked against its biographies. Justices are not labeled with political parties.
A dated observation of the officials listed on the White House Cabinet page. Historical appointments, departures, and past Cabinet rosters are not yet indexed.
The year selector uses July 1 for a historical year; the latest year opens the latest verified snapshot. Use the exact-date control for transitions within a year. Service intervals include the recorded start date and exclude the recorded end date. Time of day is not modeled.
Congress totals count people in recorded service, not the number of authorized seats. House party totals exclude nonvoting delegates and resident commissioners. Senate totals show party affiliation, which may differ from the party a senator caucuses with. Historical affiliations are shown as recorded, including party changes when the source provides dates.
The directory contains 12,926 service profiles. Congress and executive records are joined by stable identifiers when available; some historical people who served across branches may still have separate profiles. Matching names alone is not proof of identity.
Comparison counts describe people present at two endpoints, not every arrival, departure, party switch, or office change between them. A past date is a reconstruction from service records, not a claim that every document from that day has been collected.
These profiles index service history. Full voting histories, sponsored legislation, executive actions, and Court opinions have not yet been imported. Links identify the relevant source or collection and its scope. A source link is not an endorsement of an official or an administration.
Portraits come from current and archived official White House pages, Supreme Court biographies, and the public-domain unitedstates/images congressional portrait collection . They may depict a different year than the selected date. Missing portraits use initials.
The Congress Legislators service ledger is a community-maintained, CC0 dataset. It is not published by Congress. Official rosters provide an independent check of current membership; that check does not independently verify every historical term.
A daily collection checks the sources, reconciles current rosters, and validates the data before publishing a new snapshot. Source files and published versions are retained for review. If a source is unavailable or validation fails, the last verified snapshot stays available and its date remains visible. A notice appears when that snapshot is more than 48 hours old.
